LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Sibenik (region North Dalmatia, Croatia) is a town located in Croatian region North Dalmatia, on the delta of river Krka. Sibenik is center of Sibenik-Knin district. It has around 52,000 inhabitants. It is connected with other parts of Croatia and Europe with roads and railroads, airports, ships... Climate is Mediterranean with around 2,700 sunny hours per year. HISTORY
Sibenik was first time mentioned in 1066. in deed of donation by king Peter Kresimir IV. In 15th century it got under Venetian domination which lasted 400 years. In that time Sibenik`s Cathedral of St. Jakov was built. Sibenik was under the domination of Habsburg Monarchy from 1797. till 1918., and under Yugoslavia from 1945. till 1991., when Croatia became independent Republic.
CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Since 1960. International Children Festival is kept, which gathers dancing, art and dramic artists. Known people from Sibenik: writer Ivo Bresan, sculptor Juraj Dalmatinac, singer Arsen Dedic, singer Mate Miso Kovac, basketball player Drazen Petrovic, football player Ante Rukavina, actor Goran Visnjic, writer Antun Vrancic, singer Vice Vukov and many others. In Duke`s Palace used to stay deputy of Venetian administration, town`s duke and captain. Protector of town Sibenik is St. Mihovil. Monument to St. Mihovil is located in center of the town Sibenik. Jubilee of St. Mihovil and a day of town Sibenik is on 29th of September.
